Compositions
Caged Wings is a composition written by Anna Kho, which was inspired by her honours thesis in regards to constraints within improvisational contexts in relation to music performance anxiety. The composition is a graphic score accompanied by text: “I began music like a free bird. Floating among the clouds of creativity. Beginning to learn music, I was introduced to restriction of time and tonality. I learnt groove, and soon led by my musical friends to free expression. The more I listen, I adjust my playing and start seeing a world of freedom within restriction. One day, I want to find that moment of pure freedom. To fly like a bird again, and no longer the ‘Caged Wings’."
The 'Environment' we play music in greatly influences the way we deliver music to our audience. John Cage believes that all elements of the sonic environment can be taken as musical. This piece is inspired by that statement. Free improvisation is performed over field recordings of nature, traffic, and the hospital. These are performance spaces that the performers have played in.
Composer for Stage Plays
In 2023, Anna was one of the co-composers with Guy Webster for Playlab Theatre's production of White China by Therese Collie. White China featured fusion compositions influenced by Western and Chinese music, with the inspiration of experimental ambience music (software instruments and acoustic instrumental recordings) and traditional Chinese composition for Guzheng (featuring special guest artist, Cara Shen).

Free arrangements and teaching resources for you to download. Most of the arrangements were created by student request since I began teaching in 2014, so I credit my students for their great taste in music! Some pieces I workshopped with students (where credited) as a way of teaching notation and arrangement. Please note, not all scores are perfect and may require revision.
